Mental Health Director

The Bayview Hunters Point Foundation is a multi-resource community based an organization committed to providing quality services, which meet the changing needs of at-risk populations in Bayview Hunters Point and the greater San Francisco area.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position performs a broad range of clinical and case management duties to populations re-entering society from being incarcerated. Maintains primary clinical responsibility for an individual caseload and participates in other clinical programmatic and supervisory functions for unlicensed case managers. Duties include diagnostic evaluation, intensive psychotherapy and prevention, consultation, education and clinical supervision.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

· Receives and provides referrals from other agencies and professionals and handles the initial contact with clients. Provides clinical supervision for unlicensed clinical staff.

· Responsible for the supervision and oversight of the internship program.

· Conducts intake interviews and carries out related procedures, including initial diagnosis and disposition and referral out if indicated. Completes appropriate forms and documents. Requests relevant information from collateral sources.

· Conducts comprehensive diagnostic studies of clients. On a selective basis, arranges for additional evaluations, including medical, neurological, psychological, educational, speech and language.

· Provides advocacy; linkage with community resources; assist with maintenance and expansion of social network and monitors client’s re-entry into society.

· Develops and periodically reviews individual treatment plans.

· Assist with training in independent living skills.

· Performs case management and crisis intervention when needed; maintains complete and accurate progress notes; bills and documents all contacts with clients; performs mandatory reporting, e.g., 5150s, CPS reports; makes home visits; active participant in the program’s clinical case conferences; participate in continuing education training.

· Collaborates and consults with collateral sources. Advocates for clients’ needs.

· Performs related duties as assigned or required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Requirements: Licensed LCSW/MFT/PhD/PsyD. Requires at least five years of clinical experience and expertise working in a mental health setting for the chronically mentally ill. Requires broad theoretical knowledge and expertise in the practice of a variety of treatment modalities and of diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in order to diagnose and solve problems in psychotherapeutic work with children, adolescents, and adults and their families. Requires skill in effecting and maintaining collaborative relationships with multi-disciplinary associate staff members and outside collateral sources. Requires experience working with minority populations. Requires knowledge of the ethnic, economic and social factors affecting the residents of the neighborhood served by the program.

Director of Safe Navigation Center

POSITION: Director of Safe Navigation Center

Reports to: Deputy Director

JOB SUMMARY

The Director manages the daily operations at a busy, dynamic harm reduction Navigation Center in San Francisco. You will manage a large, diverse, multi-disciplinary team in providing a nurturing, welcoming and safe place for folks to begin their healing and housing process at this innovative, nurturing, fast-paced Navigation Center. You will provide well-rounded, thorough leadership in all Navigation Center needs, from scheduling to maintenance to mediation and everything in between.

GENERAL DESCRIPTIONS

  • Lead your team in de-escalating, creative problem-solving, and community building at a new, vibrant Navigation Center in San Francisco.
  • Work on the front lines of a pioneer project to end homelessness and promote healing in a city with one of the nation’s highest homeless populations.
  • Dynamically lead center management, staffing, supervision, training, security, and community partnerships.
  • Hire, schedule and manage a team of Shift Supervisors, Diplomats, providing supervision, mediation, training and support.
  • Promote community building and engagement among staff and program participants at the Navigation Center.
  • Act as a key decision maker in critical situations relating to guest services and operational matters.
  • Ensure a warm, safe and healthy environment for all staff and participants.
  • Ensure peaceful diffusion and employ de-escalation techniques in incidents involving violence or threats of violence. Mediate heated situations among participants and/or staff.
  • Collaborate with BVHPF leadership team to design and implement staff training and continuing education programs for staff in collaboration with the Directors.
  • Respond to participant, community, and public concerns.
  • Provide crisis intervention and lead team in skill development
  • Maintain diplomatic relations with community partners, neighbors and nonprofit providers in our community. 
  • Maintain accurate records; write shift and incident reports, review and authorize Denial of Service notices, and ensure equitable and appropriate enforcement of Navigation Center rules. Maintain operations logs, records, statistical records and other documentation including computerized records.
  • Welcome and manage all participant input at regularly scheduled community meetings, groups and activities.
  • Coordinate program activities, including those with other agencies.
  • Ensure all services and program materials are relevant, engaging, accessible, and understood by participants of differing backgrounds and histories.
  • Provide direct oversight to the administrative and contract services of the Navigation center and ensure contractors (food, security, care managers, etc.) are performing contractual obligation
  • Regularly review Navigation Center policies and procedures. Assist and advise in formulating new policies and procedures and revision of existing ones in collaboration with the Navigation Center Directors.
  • Ensure accuracy of bi-weekly payroll, proper staffing and ensure overtime is minimized.
  • Gather, maintain, and report Center-specific program data. Manage service and outcome tracking in collaboration with the Navigation Center Directors and complete timely statistical reports.
  • Act as liaison with Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing.
  • Follow policies, procedures, and protocols established by any appropriate City agency or funder including citywide grievance procedure(s).
  • Monitor programs’ financial performance and, as needed, correct in order to ensure performance within budget.
  • Ensure high-quality performance, achievement of service and outcome objectives, and compliance with legal and contractual requirements through regular program evaluation and development and implementation of a continuous quality improvement process.
  • Stay current with innovation and best practice models in service delivery for homeless and formerly homeless people.

QUALIFICATIONS

• BA/BS degree in Social Services, Business Management or related field. Work experience may be accepted in lieu of a four year degree.
• Minimum two years supervisory experience.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Above average ability to read, write and speak English.
• Ability to manage conflict and resolve problems.
• Prior work experience with homelessness issues, preferably in direct services.
• Knowledge of community agencies and networking.
• Ability to de-escalate crisis situations and make decisions under pressure.
• Sensitivity to the needs of diverse ethnic and cultural populations.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries with staff, volunteers and clients.

Director of Communications

POSITION: Director of Communications

JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Communications will serve as a lead storyteller for BVHPF. Your work will further our ability to build the capacity of artists and demonstrate the essential role that artists play in the wellbeing of communities. You will lead our external communications strategy, partnering with senior management to build, refine, and prioritize media opportunities.

GENERAL DESCRIPTIONS

  • Lead external communications as the driver of how we amplify and advance our reputation with key external stakeholders, potential collaborators and the general public. 
  • Serve as a strong strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate and mitigate potential communications challenges. 
  • Capitalize on opportunities that will further our ability to clarify our vision and desired impact. 
  • Collaborate closely with the CEO, and BVHPF leadership to cultivate local and national media relationships and pursue speaking engagements that will connect BVHPF with industry leaders, potential collaborators, and investors. 
  • Develop strategic local and national media relationships that will elevate the profile of BVHPF to differentiate and demonstrate the impact of our initiatives. 
  • Provide strategic communications counsel to our senior leadership and collaborators as appropriate.
  • Lead the development of press releases, press kits and public education campaigns to help the public understand our work. 
  • Advance and optimize storytelling across BVHP’s owned digital platforms, coordinating media relations timelines with overall editorial calendars 
  • Translate broad strategies into clear, specific objectives and key results for teams.
  •  Leverage a variety of platforms to heighten the visibility of BVHPF’s story, programs, initiatives, and staff. 
  • Establish and track metrics for major external communications efforts and materials such as white papers and thought leadership to build comprehensive stories of impact. 
  • Proactively pitch BVHPF experiences, programs and performances for relevant listings and pursue broad opportunities that help the public understand how to engage with us. 
  • Project manage workflows that will prepare internal and external stakeholders, track materials and communicate deadlines in advance to prepare internal teams for announcements and follow up communications.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of experience in public relations for a Non-Profit, Organization, Public Relations firm, media, or related field
  • Demonstrated mastery of external communication fundamentals, and fluency in the most current communication platforms/mediums.
  • Ability to synthesize complex narratives into clear, compelling stories.
  • Expertise in crisis communications and change management, thriving in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional writer and dynamic speaker with experience serving as spokesperson
  • Demonstrate expertise in developing key messaging related to rapid response
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Experience working with, and presenting to, a variety of stakeholders such as senior leadership teams, board of directors, etc.
  • Strong business acumen, and an understanding of key metrics relevant to achieving an organization’s strategic plans.
  • Proactive, results-oriented, and a champion of innovative ideas.
